Messy Church
“Messy Church is a fun time for children and their families, a chance to relax and be creative together, and an opportunity to think about the things that matter to us and to God”
Next Messy Church: Sunday 7th December, 4pm.

How did it all begin? It's hard to believe that the very first messy church took place over two years ago, on Sunday 22 Oct in 2006 and had the theme of "A Messy Harvest". This was also following on from the various Harvest fundraising we did with the Junior School to help the Quetcha people in Bolivia (on behalf of Tear Fund).
45+ children and their parents turned up on a very wet and gloomy Sunday afternoon to take part in the various activities on offer that included; Creating Snake Pizzas, Making Quetcha people biscuits, Seed collages, Bulb planting, Potato printing Sprout painting, Colouring.
Plus we enjoyed tasting the enormous array of cakes on offer to all. The event was concluded with a dance and a traditional Harvest song sung to a Latin beat. See the photos at the bottom of the page for examples of our work!
So who can come?
Anyone can come! Though Messy Church is staffed mostly by volunteers from SCMC and HI (Holy Innocents), you don't have to be a member of either church or even a Christian to be there! The only thing we ask is that children are not left unaccompanied during the event - parents must stay on the premises at all times.
What can I expect? You can expect exactly what it says at the top of the page!
Each Messy Church session is based around a particular theme. There are always a range of activities from painting to potato printing t o mobile making, and biscuit decorating to finger printing. There's always a craft actvity using different materials to create a specific item, and yummy food and drink are always on offer. There is no charge for each event, though donations for materials are always gratefully received!
Towards the end of the session we all come together with Rev Kath and Angie (our youthworker), share jokes and show what we've made. We also discuss the theme of each Messy Church session and stand to sing a song with crazy actions.
