What can you tell me about the Youth at SCMC?

Being a young Christian at SCMC is not only about meeting with God, but also about getting together with other young people and having fun. Our 'FUSION' group meets exactly for this purpose. Some weeks we meet to chat and chill out, and sometimes we have a Bible study session. However, no matter what we do there's always time and space for playing on the Wii, X-BOX, air hockey table, pool table or computers/internet. A wide screen TV and music system are also very inviting! During our Sunday services there is also a chance to meet with other youngsters and discuss the theme of the main service using inspiring new material (and playing silly games).

At the present time, as an older young person at SCMC, you'd just have completed or assisted with the Youth Alpha - part of the main Alpha course with hot food, Bible teaching and discussion, with the added luxuries of Angie, beanbags and chocolate! This took the place of our meetings on Wednesday nights, at the Junior School in Southwater. We've also just begun meeting on Sunday nights after the FUSION meeting. It's a mixture of chilling and chatting with some Bible study or discussion groups of topical issues. We end every session with a time of prayer for each other to meet with God and help us prepare for the week ahead.

Do you ever go out and do 'other stuff'?

Yes! Both youth groups also plan their own activities, and sometimes get together for activities outside Beeson House. For instance, we've been to several N:Vision 'Adore' concerts, most recently with Matt Redman leading worship! FUSION spent an excellent time at Carroty Wood for a wild winter weekend!

In addition to this, our older youth braved the rain under canvas at Soul Survivor in Shepton Mallet. We had a brilliant time and really met with God and saw the Holy Spirit do some amazing stuff.

So what group should I join?

Who should I ask for more info?
Angie Choat, our village Youth worker who runs many activities at the youth centre in Beeson House in Lintot Square. She also works in the village schools and runs groups for the 2 village churches.

Contact Angie on: 07795 835905, or alternatively you can email her by clicking here.

In addition to the various drop in sessions, clubs, and arts & crafts etc which all happen at Beeson House, Angie also helps run holiday clubs and holiday activities.

For the 2 village churches (but open to all) she has helped to lead Messy Church (see separate page), runs trips, and heads up the groups listed at the top of the page! We think she's fantastic. Angie's salary is funded by the Anglican, Methodist and URC churches and the Parish Council. From next September we are seeking to renew her contract with us when she will be funded by the Methodist Church, the URC, and the Parish Council. We are very grateful to her for all she does and we know that she is a real asset to our ministry. A big thank you to the Junior School parents who gave generously to this project after the Upper Juniors Nativity Production (which was really good!!!)

* Please note that our leaders and all our childrens workers and helpers are accredited as safe to work with children & young people through our highly regarded Methodist Church Safeguarding procedure, which is itself part of the UK government's National Safeguarding scheme. A copy of this policy is available from our minister Kath Jones or our shared youthworker Angie Choat.
