Here at SCMC, we really enjoyed our first Alpha Course last September! So much learning, fun and real experience of the Holy Spirit - not to mention getting to know new people and all the good food we munched or way through! We heard from Nicky Gumbel and our very own Rev. Kath Jones, whilst our small groups were lead by the legendary Jon Fisher.
Thanks must go to Kath and Jon and also to Tina Andrews who co-ordinated the whole experience, and also to Angie who lead the Youth sessions. And what would we have done without the catering team and all those behind scenes, not just setting up and clearing away, but for planning and prayer too? Thank you all so very much for all you did. As you can see, its all systems go again this autumn, and we would really recommend you get involved, and invite your friends to the course itself.
We have received some really encouraging feedback from some friends who took part in Alpha @ SCMC. Read on to discover how it was for them;
"The Alpha Course is first and foremost a great way to meet friendly, like-minded people. You can be involved as much or as little as you want without any pressure, and there is always someone there to answer your questions (even the ones that you think are silly). It is definitely an eye- and mind-opening experience. Plus you get a great meal every week, what more can you ask for?"
"As an introduction to Christianity and to what Christians believe about God, Jesus Christ and the Bible the Alpha Course is very good. It gives a chance for everyone to question Christian ideas about life, the universe and everything and to think more deeply about why we are here and where we are going. The shared supper beforehand is also good for getting to know people and exchanging ideas".
If you want to know what the Alpha Course in September 2008 will be like - have a look below to see the kind of things it involves!

The 2007 Alpha Course:
Every Wednesday from 26th September to December 5th 2007 at the Junior School

What is Alpha?
-
a fun, informative, ten week basic introduction to Christianity aimed at those who want to explore what Christians have to say, or those who want to brush up on what they already know
-
a non threatening "ask anything" opportunity to explore the questions of life
-
a chance to chill, have supper, & make new friends, and also about half way through there is the opprtunity to go away for a weekend or a day to have fun and to reflect on what you have learned

What happens each week on Alpha?
-
a tasty supper in a warm and friendly environment - yes, there are even candles and flowers on the table

-
an interesting and cringe free talk (well apart from some of the jokes!!) - this may be a live speaker or a dvd recording
-
a time to discuss the issues raised in a small group of fellow guests and one or two hosts

What doesn't happen on Alpha?
-
absolutely no one will tell you your views are stupid nor pressurise you to change your mind nor follow you up on the phone/doorstep etc!!
So, come and see why we think life is so worth living - and you get to have your say
(and a great supper!)
